About Paraaf

Initials in the margin

A paraaf is the set of initials you put in the margin of every page you have read through. Paraaf reads through the rules for your business and initials what is in order. For the rest, it says what is required, why, and who can help you.

Who makes Paraaf?

I’m Neal Van de Velde and I build websites and software for small businesses in Flanders and Brussels, under the name nealvdv. I built Paraaf myself, rule by rule.

Independent, not a government service

Paraaf is not a service of the government, a trade federation or an insurer. Nobody pays to be mentioned in Paraaf. Where it matters, we refer you to your accountant, your payroll office or a lawyer, never to paid software.

Every rule has a source and a date

Every rule shows its source (the legal article, the government service or the supervisory authority) and the date on which we checked it. A rule without a checked source is never shown as required, only as “to look at”.

Why free?

Because it’s useful, and because it makes nealvdv known; I’d rather say so. If you find something on your website scan, you’re welcome to have me fix it, but you don’t have to: the scan is yours, and any web builder can work with it.

What happens to my data?

A website scan stays for 30 days on its own link that only you know, until you share it. Your answers in the business check stay in your browser, unless you keep them in a free account yourself; an account is never needed. I get no notice of who scans what, and I don’t call anyone.

Something not right?

It can happen: rules change and an automated scan sometimes gets it wrong. Let me know via contact@nealvdv.be and I’ll look into it.

Curious what nealvdv builds?

Websites that are in order: fast, findable, in four languages and without a cookie banner.
